Ginuwine is an American R&B singer, entertainer and performer. Since the mid-1990s, Ginuwine is responsible for several multi-platinum and platinum-selling albums, becoming an icon for the R&B community and popularizing ‘hip-hop soul’ in the mid-90s.
Early in his career he met rapper Missy Elliott and producer Timbaland, who became his primary mentors and collaborators throughout the 1990s. “Pony”, Ginuwine’s first single, demonstrated his mesmerizing vocal skills and smooth dance moves. The song was featured in the film Wild Hogs and also in the video game Grand Theft Auto IV. Ginuwine also covered Prince’s “When Doves Cry” single from the Purple Rain movie soundtrack. Instantly, Ginuwine was stamped as someone who possessed charisma, charm and a suave demeanor.
In 2001, Ginuwine had a number-four hit called “Differences” on Billboard’s Hot 100, which also climbed to number-one on the Billboard Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Single & Tracks chart. In 2002, he was cast as “Romeo”, an R&B singer, in the film Juwanna Mann. In 2003, he was also featured in the hit film Honey starring Jessica Alba.
Ginuwine's fifth album, Back II Da Basics, was released on November 15, 2005. The album went Gold with sales of 500,000 copies. Ginuwine's sixth album entitled A Man's Thoughts was released on June 23, 2009.
Ginuwine is now signed to Notifi Records. He is now due to release his seventh album, “Elgin”, in the winter. While working on songs for his new album he has been simultaneously working on the launch of his new foundation S.P.R.U.C.E., whose mission is to enhance normalcy in the everyday lives of deserving individuals with mental and physical challenges. The foundation will be unveiled on June 17th, 2010 in Kansas City, Missouri.
